The Maasai tribe still live in Tanzania. On coming of age, the men leave the village and live rough with their cattle on the savannah. Surrounded by all the traditional predators, they defend their livestock with spears and clubs. They engage in ancestor worship, and believe that all cattle were given to them by the sky god when the heaven and the earth split. Only recently have they stopped raiding local villages in order to retrieve "stolen" animals.
